2013 World Cup Stage 1 – Shanghai, China

At the first World Cup of the 2013 season there where many upsets and surprises.
The dominant Korean women’s recurve team who has won almost every event they’ve ever entered in the last decade; however, they were outshot by the all Hoyt team from Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals. After Taipaei’s victory over Korea, they met an all Hoyt team from the Ukraine with the experienced Viktoriya KOVAL who is on her comeback tour after taking some time off. The young women from Chinese Taipei kept their momentum and went on to win the team gold medal.
In the women’s compound division, it was an all Hoyt show-down in both team and individual competition. In the team rounds the bronze medal match was between India and Italy. The Italian ladies could not make a fist against the young Indians who have always shot well in Shanghai. The Indians won the bronze by 228 over 223 for the Italians.
The gold medal match was up for another surprise. The dominant force of the USA women was up against the Korean women. The Koreans never won a team gold in World Cup history, however, that didn’t stop them from beating the USA women 231 -216 giving them their first team gold.
In the individual category Korean golden team member SEOK Ji Hyun was up against Erika JONES (USA) for the top spot. Both women had already met in the previous team finals. The outcome of this match was the same, Gold for Korea and Silver for USA.
The bronze medal match saw Team Hoyt’s Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) up against the young Carli COCHRAN (USA). The more experienced LOGINOVA took the bronze medal. All four women were shooting the new Pro Comp Elite and the top 15 women were all shooting Hoyt.
In the men’s compound team competition, the all Hoyt team of the Korean men won the bronze medal and Hoyt Pro Comp Elite shooters Reo WILDE and Rodger WILLETT Jr. (USA) were on the gold medal winning men’s team. Wilde also went on to win the bronze in individual competition.
Olympic champion and Team Hoyt shooter, OH Jin Hyek (KOR) dominated the tournament from start to finish in his first major competition since winning gold in London. With a staggering 1371 in the qualification round, he never gave up his first place ranking. To no surprise, he walked away with the gold, beating his teammate in the process. OH shoots the 2013 Ion-X.
The recurve mixed team was the domain of team Hoyt’s Brady ELLISON and Khatuna LORIG (USA). Both shot their Ion-X to win the gold.
In the compound mixed team Erika JONES (USA) was on the gold winning team, MIN Lihong and SEOK Ji Hyun (KOR) took silver and Marcella TONIOLI and Sergio PAGNI (ITA) ended up with the bronze.
