USPSA Handgun Championships Held in St. George, Utah

Shooters Came from Across the Country to Compete for Regional Titles
The United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) held the 2013 Area 1 handgun shooting championships in St. George, Utah this past Wednesday through Sunday.
More than 440 of the nation’s best pistol shooters competed in the match which included 13 challenging courses of fire to test the shooters’ skills with the pistol.
Hosted at the Practical Shooting Range at the Southern Utah Shooting Sports Park, shooters competed for regional titles in USPSA’s Open, Limited, Limited 10, Production, Revolver and Single Stack divisions.
The top winners included Nilis Jonasson in the Limited Division, and Craig Underdown in the Limited 10 Division. Open titles went to Bob Krogh in the Production Division, Brian Noel in the Revolver Division, and Elias Frangoulis in the Single Stack Division. David Pruitt was the top winner in the Open division and top winner in Combined overall.
“Creative stages and incredible match staff – you can’t ask for more” said Travis Tomasie, Para USA sponsored shooter. “This match really highlights the best of USPSA shooting,” Tomasie continued. Tomasie finished 3rd overall in the Limited Division.
In addition to the action on the 13 match stages, match organizers also treated competitors to several “side-matches”. Every competitor had the chance to shoot several different steel target arrays, a 2×4 shooting contest and head to head challenges made possible by the generous donations of the match sponsors.
“We wanted to put on a match that kept everyone engaged.” said Ken Nelson, Area 1 Championship Match Director. “One of the great aspects of a match like this is that people get to try things they may not have an opportunity to back at their home range.”
USPSA matches often involve the opportunity to shoot while moving as well as shoot at reactive targets that are not common in any other shooting discipline.
