Video: Fishing for Steelhead and Salmon in World Famous Skeena River
OutdoorHub Reporters 05.23.13
British Columbia’s second longest river has a reputation among salmon anglers. Millions of spawning sockeye, chinook, and pink salmon frequent the Skeena, making it one of the most valuable rivers for salmon fishing in all of Canada. The Skeena is also known as the “River of Mists,” and boasts previous world records for chinook and coho salmon. In fact, anglers who are fond of the area will say that even an average sized chinook in the Skeena is comparable to a trophy fish elsewhere.
Although there are some hatchery raised fish exist in the river, the majority of chinook – an estimated 90 percent – are wild. Steelhead is also in abundance here, especially in August.
This is why the team at Salmon Junkies couldn’t resist a little detour. Fortunately for us, they brought along their cameras.
