Spec”Tackle”lar Fish & Friends Activities Planned at Cacapon Resort State Park June 8 and 9 in West Virginia

Free fishing days in West Virginia are Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9. Cacapon State Park encourages families and friends to visit the park for fishing or other recreation at this Morgan County destination. Cacapon is one of five state parks with stocked catfish tagged for research. Activities this weekend include fishing and aquatic interests. There is no charge to participate.

Activities at Cacapon State Park June 8 and 9

The Cacapon Nature Center Open is open on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. The center features animal mounts, displays and information about animals found at the park and the hub of planned interpretative activities.

Saturday, June 8

A Fishing Derby at 9 a.m. is a great way to become more aware of our natural resources and it’s free! Bring your own fishing pole and Cacapon will provide the bait. Meet at the Boat Docks for an hour and a half of angling fun.

Amazing Amphibians is an 11:30 a.m. activity atthe Nature Center. An eyewitness video on all different species of amphibians is part of the fun. (30 min.)

Gyotaku:  Gyotaku is the Japanese art form of fish printing that was used as a way of recording trophy catches prior to the modern day camera. Join the naturalist at the Nature Center to make your own fish print at 1 p.m.

Cacapon Creek Critters is thestudy of the creepy, crawly critters that may be found in the stream. Attendees should meet in the picnic area near the playground equipment at 3 p.m. No equipment is necessary; however, wear shoes that can get wet. This afternoon activity is learning-fun for children of all ages.

Sunday, June 9

Ravishing Reptiles is a 30 minute eyewitness video followed by an animal meet and greet! Get an up-close and hands-on experience at 1:30 p.m. with some of Cacapon’ s critters.

Sunday Scavenger Hunt meets at the Nature Center to search for items on a special scavenger hunt list. All you need are quick hands and a keen eye!  Scavenger hunts are available for different ages and begins at 2 p.m.

Activities at Cacapon Resort State Park are posted on www.cacaponresort.com.  Family activities are generally planned on weekends with Nature Center hours scheduled throughout the week with varying times. Cacapon Resort State Park is near Berkeley Springs.  The park will have fireworks on Saturday, June 22, 2013 to Celebrate West Virginia’s 150th birthday.
