Whitetails Unlimited (WTU) and Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) announce a new veteran support program to be introduced at Whitetails Unlimited events across the country from July 2013 to June 2014. The purpose is to recognize WTU member veterans who attend events, and to raise money for HAVA’s work among disabled veterans and injured active duty military. At 400+ WTU events over this one year period, veterans will be recognized, a unique “Proud Veteran” lapel pin will be distributed and a collectable print will be auctioned for the benefit of the HAVA program.
“HAVA is a perfect fit for us as we reach out to our veteran members and honor their service to America,” said Peter Gerl, Whitetails Unlimited’s Executive Director. “Their work with veterans and active duty wounded is supported by the shooting sports industry, and our place is with these companies who enable us to pursue our hunting passion. A large percentage of our members are veterans whose service in defense of freedom needs to be recognized and it will be our privilege to contribute to HAVA’s events which seek to assist disabled veterans in recapturing their confidence in the future through active participation in outdoor sports.”
Tom Taylor, HAVA’s Chairman added, “To partner with Whitetails Unlimited in raising funds for our veteran-support events represents a new outreach level for HAVA given Whitetail Unlimited’s size and penetration in the outdoor community. To be featured at their 400+ events over a full year will support our goal of increasing awareness of the plight of the disabled veteran and to contribute resources to our cause as we take veterans, and often their families, on hunts and to shooting events as a way of helping them re-adjust to civilian life and enjoy outdoor sports.”
