Video: Reporter’s Hilarious Take on Bear Safety Tips

NBC 10 reporter Julie Tremmel gives a rather interesting rendition of some basic bear encounter tips in a video that’s been passed around the internet. The segment came about after a number of black bear sightings occurred near Cranston, Rhode Island and provoked some concern from residents. Despite Tremmel’s unorthodox delivery, the advice expressed in the segments seems to fall in line with what most wildlife experts believe. However, the below tips can only be applied to black bears, other bears such as the much more dangerous grizzly can behave differently. Experts also advise that upon encountering a black bear, one should try to appear as large as possible. As always, wildlife agencies say that anyone traveling in bear territory should consider carrying bear spray.

The below video shows how to deal with a brown or grizzly bear, and how to tell the difference between false charges, called bluffs, and real attacks.
