Summer Hunter Education Class Set for Billings, Montana

A three-day hunter education class is set for Aug. 8-10 at the Billings Rod and Gun Club. Participation is limited to the first 65 students who register online.
The class will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Billings Rod and Gun Club skeet building.
Students may register online by visiting the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks website at http://fwp.mt.gov and following the links to “education” and “hunter education.” Students should be at least 11 years old and qualified to hunt this fall to register and take the class.
This is a “test-in” class. After registering online, students must pick up all class materials at the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 5 headquarters at 2300 Lake Elmo Drive in Billings Heights. They must read and study the class manual before attending. Hunter Education volunteers will administer a test on the manual on the first day of class. Those who pass the test will be allowed to continue. Those who fail will be invited to take a traditional week-long class this fall.
Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1985, must take a hunter education class to qualify for a Montana hunting license.
The class teaches Montanans to be safe, responsible and ethical hunters. The free class is taught by certified volunteers and includes a hands-on field day. Students must attend all sessions, pass the class and successfully complete field day activities to be certified.
