Nearshore Pacific, Oregon Halibut Fishery Open One More Day on July 26

Fishery managers announced today the closure of the central Oregon nearshore Pacific halibut fishery except for one final day of fishing on Friday, July 26. The fishery was scheduled for Thursday through Saturday  but managers estimate there is enough quota for just one additional day of fishing.

“Anglers have had good success in the nearshore fishery this year, even better than the last couple of years,” said Lynn Mattes, halibut project leader for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The nearshore halibut fishery is one of Oregon’s fastest growing marine fisheries, in terms of both of weekly angler trips and numbers of individual anglers.

Pacific halibut fishing will resume when the summer all-depth fishery begins on Aug. 2.
