Sara Lopez Makes Archery History at Columbia World Cup

The individual eliminations of the Medellin World Cup were marked by a strong performance from a rising star of world archery who confirmed her supremacy after wining the Antalya World Cup event. Sara Lopez broke the world record in the 15-arrow elimination match at 150 points, breaking the previous mark of 149 set by Gladys Willems (BEL) in 2011 and equaling the men’s record held by Reo Wilde. She ultimately went on to take third in the tournament. After her first place World Cup finish in Turkey, the 18-year-old Lopez went on to add the World Games bronze medal to her fast-growing collection the week after setting the record.
“The new record gives lots of confidence, not only to me but to all the (Columbian) team,” said Lopez. “With the qualification of Alejandra for the final, we showed that we are very strong and that our victory in Turkey wasn’t a coincidence. I’m very happy with this new world record, especially here in Colombia with my family in attendance, and I realize that I’m a good archer. We’ll now see if we can fight for the gold as a team.”
