Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results Are in for 2013’s Ohio River 2-Day $10,000.00 Super Event

This past Friday and Saturday August 9th & 10th, the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park in Vevay, Indiana was an array of activities for the whole family in conjunction with the 2013 Cabela’s King Kat 2-day $10,000.00 Super Event. Special guest were in attendance at the event including, members of the Switzerland County Tourism including Executive Director Kendal Miller, also Toni French Retail Manager of the Louisville Cabela’s Store. Also in attendance were members of the Kentucky Fish and Game to do studies of the fish caught in the 2-day event to help improve the quality of catfishing in that section of the Ohio River.
In the event over 80 of the top anglers from 9 different states were competing not only for the $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2013 Cabela’s King Kat Classic. This year’s Cabela’s King Kat Classic will be held September 26-28, 2013 on Kentucky Lake at Camden, Tennessee. Be sure to check out our new website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams
Taking first place was the team of Scott Cress of Covington, Kentucky and Carl Crone of Villa Hills, Kentucky weighing in a 2-day total of 142.95 pounds and earning $4,300.00. Scott and Carl, also winners of last year’s Vevay event were fishing the Markland Pool in 25-50 feet of water where the fish were scattered on the bottom in the channel and on flats. The team was using skipjack and mooneyes to catch 35 fish in the 2-day event. The team also won the Driftmaster Award for the event.
In second place was Derrick Johnson of Brookville, Indiana and Terry Johnson of Connersville, Indiana with a total weight of 114..1 pounds and earning $2,000.00. The Johnson team were fishing the Markland Pool in 35 feet of water drifting part of the time and anchored down on day 2 using mooneye and skipjack along with some shad to catch 15 fish in the 2-days.
Third place went to the Mount Orab, Ohio team of Vic Sheppard and Chris Debow with a 2-day total weight of 105.65 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Vic and Chris were fishing the Cincinnati, Ohio area in 35-40 feet of water drifting on Friday and anchored down on Saturday over structure using skipjack.
Jerid Potter and Josh Parker of Madison, Indiana took fourth place with a weight of 100 pounds and earning $700.00. Jerid and Josh were fishing the Markland pool in 27 to 32 feet of water drifting over wood structure using cut shad to catch 10 fish in two days including the big fish of the event a 33.40 pounder which earned the team an additional $700.00.
Fifth place went to Don Elder of Louisville, Kentucky and Brian Burnett of Scottsburg, Indiana weighing in 96 pounds and earning $500.00. Don and Brian were fishing the Markland Pool in 45-50 feet of water in the edge of the current at the dam anchored down using skipjack and mooneye to catch 20-35 fish in the 2-days of the event.
