“Smart Scope” Maker TrackingPoint Expands and Relocates

Austin-based TrackingPoint recently announced that it will be relocating to a larger facility in nearby Pflugerville, Texas. Known as the designer and producer of “Precision Guided Firearms,” TrackingPoint offers high-end, sophisticated firearm systems that utilize scope-mounted computers to plot firing solutions. This technology is often referred to as “smart scopes.”
According to KEYE-TV, the growing popularity of the company led to a decision to expand. TrackingPoint intends on moving into a new, 48,000-square-foot facility in Pflugerville to meet increased demand. The company’s recent collaboration with Remington to produce the Remington 2020 brought additional attention to TrackingPoint. Coming in three models priced around the $5,000 mark, the Remington 2020 is more economical than the sophisticated TrackingPoint firearms, which are sold for tens of thousands of dollars. Currently TrackingPoint is experiencing a backlog as they simply cannot manufacture rifles and optics quickly enough to meet demand. It is hoped that moving to a larger manufacturing facility will help address the problem.

TrackingPoint operated out of Austin for three years and currently has over 100 employees. Because of the short distance between its current location and Pflugerville, TrackingPoint expects the move to have little impact on its employees. The new facility will include a manufacturing plant, administrative offices, and a ballistics testing lab.
