New Hampshire Trout Stocked for Winter Anglers

Winter anglers in New Hampshire had some trout stocked especially for them this fall. The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department stocks trout every year during the fall months, mostly to bolster the winter ice fishery. This should translate into some exciting action for winter anglers, according to Inland Fisheries Division Chief Jason Smith.

Anglers going after trout can find lists of waters that remain open to the taking of trout year round on the Fish and Game website. For lakes and ponds, visit http://www.fishnh.com/Fishing/year_round_trout_ponds.htm. For rivers and streams, see http://www.fishnh.com/Fishing/year_round_trout_streams.htm. Rules for waterbodies with special regulations are listed in the N.H. Freshwater Fishing Digest, available from license agents or on the Fish and Game website at http://www.fishnh.com/pubs/fishing.html.

Following is a list of New Hampshire lakes and ponds that were scheduled to be stocked with trout during the fall of 2013 (keep in mind that these are just the waterbodies that received fall stocking in 2013; there are many more New Hampshire waterbodies open for year-round fishing):

Beaver Lake, Derry
Massabesic Lake, Manchester
Opechee Lake, Laconia
Waukewan Lake, Meredith
Winona Lake, Center Harbor
Chocorua Lake, Tamworth
Wentworth Lake, Wolfeboro
Crystal Lake, Gilmanton
Akers Pond, Errol
Cedar Pond, Milan
Martin Meadow Pond, Lancaster
Sunapee Lake (Little), New London
Stinson Lake, Rumney
Pearl Lake, Lisbon
Streeter Pond, Sugar Hill
Forest Lake, Winchester
Laurel Lake, Fitzwilliam
Deering Reservoir, Deering
Gustin Pond, Marlow
Newell Pond, Alstead

Additionally, Fish and Game Department hatcheries stocked out post-spawn brook and brown trout this fall into selected waterbodies without a closed season. These fish can range from 2-3 pounds each. Numbers, dates and stocking locations vary annually depending on availability.

For anglers wishing to pursue open-water trout fishing in rivers, Fish and Game stocked portions of the Cocheco and Lamprey Rivers earlier this fall with surplus broodfish from its New Hampton Hatchery.
