Ice fishing is a great way for anglers to get out and explore Colorado during winter. That’s why Colorado Parks and Wildlife is partnering on several opportunities to get anglers out on the ice in January. Come join us!
Denver Ice Fishing Seminar
WHO:Everyone interested in learning about ice fishing
WHAT: Ice Fishing Seminar with Dave Bryant of Lake Ice USA
WHEN:Thurs., Jan. 16, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
WHERE: Hunter Education building, 6060 Broadway, Denver
HOW: To register please e-mail wildlife.neoutreach@state.co.us or call 303-291-7804 and leave a message with name(s), address and phone number. There is no charge for this event. Space is limited to 75 people, so register early! Dave will cover the basics of ice safety, gear and fishing techniques for beginning anglers. There will be technique talk and fish tales for all–come learn about this exciting winter sport!
Jeffco Ice Fishing Classes
WHO: Beginner ice anglers looking for a guided experience
WHAT: Introduction to Ice Fishing class
WHEN: Sat., Jan. 25 and Sat., Feb. 1; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WHERE: Pine Valley Ranch Open Space Park, 30400 Crystal Lake Rd., Pine
HOW: Register on line at (http://www.register-ed.com/programs/colorado/118-colorado-outreach), Space is limited to 25 people per class. Participants 16 years old and older will need to have a valid fishing license. No equipment needed, but if you have your own and want to use it please bring it. Dress in layers for cold weather and bring snacks and a warm drink. Instructions about where to meet at the registration page.
Fort Collins Ice Fishing Clinic and Class
WHO: Ice fishing novices in the Fort Collins area
WHAT: CPW & CSU chapter of American Fisheries Society intro to ice fishing clinic and outing
WHEN: Fri., Jan. 24, 6 to 8 p.m. (classroom) and Sat., Jan. 25, 8 a.m. to noon (fishing)
WHERE: Classroom portion will be at CSU; fishing spot will be announced at class.
HOW: To sign up, please email Chad Morgan at chad.morgan@state.co.us. Clinic will start in the classroom to learn terminology, biology, laws, etc. and then anglers will venture out on the ice the next day to do some fishing. All equipment will be provided and there is no fee for the class. Note: the evening classroom is mandatory for those who want to fish the next day. Participants 16 years old and older will need to have a valid fishing license. Space is limited so register early!
