Record Fundraising for Conservation at DSC Convention, Expo

The Dallas Safari Club (DSC) convention and expo concluded its four-day run on Sunday, and club officials are forecasting that the event has generated record fundraising for conservation efforts worldwide.

Always the first major hunting show each year, the event was Jan. 9-12 at the Dallas Convention Center and Omni Hotel Dallas.

“We’re thrilled,” said Ben Carter, DSC executive director, “that gate attendance, auctions, new memberships and paid exhibit space all set new records this year. We’re still totaling receipts, but we’re projecting that we’ve generated well over $1 million for conservation efforts worldwide.”

That estimate includes $350,000 from a special auction for a black rhino-hunting permit in Namibia. Funds will be used for anti-poaching efforts, habitat protection and wildlife research.

DSC grants for conservation, education and hunter advocacy programs will be announced later this year.

“We’re grateful to our exhibitors, attendees, sponsors, and especially our volunteers, for their incredible support. Together, they’ve been part of something special over these past few days,” added Carter.
