Video: Elderly Couple Unknowingly Walks Past Bear

It’s not unusual for tourists visiting Southern California to tell stories about seeing bears, but this couple never saw the critter, even though they passed within several feet of it.
According to KTLA, Bob and Irene McKeown of Scotland were visiting relatives near the Angeles National Forest when this encounter happened. The couple leaves the residence and walks past the bear without spotting it, until the bear starts to follow them. The encounter suddenly took a turn for the worse when the sneaky animal took a swipe at Bob’s ankle, leaving some scratches and finally alerting the couple to its presence. The couple was able to flee without further injury, although they will always have this surveillance tape as a reminder of their close call.
