Media Invited to National Pheasant Fest in Milwaukee

Members of the media are invited to attend Pheasants Forever’s National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic 2014, coming to the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, February 14, 15 and 16th. Media badges allowing complimentary admission to the event are now available!

National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic 2014 is the nation’s largest upland hunting and conservation event. This year’s show will feature:

Bird Dogs and Dog Trainers. Upwards of 40 different sporting dog breeds will be represented in a “Bird Dog Parade,” dog training seminars will occur throughout the weekend, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with breeders, trainers, and dog kennel and club representatives. The event will also feature the leading dog trainers and handlers in the country; including Bob West, Tom Dokken, Rick Smith, Ronnie Smith and Delmar Smith.

Hunting & Habitat. Hundreds of outdoor exhibitors, hunting how-to seminars all weekend long and a Landowner Habitat Help Room where individuals can obtain a free wildlife habitat plan for their property.

Wild Game Cooking. Renowned outdoor chefs and authors Hank Shaw, Tovar Cerculli and David Draper lead cooking seminars, giving tips and tricks for preparing wild game.

Pheasant AND Quail. The Quail Classic portion will continue in this year’s event, devoted to quail hunting and conservation, including examining what can be done to restore bobwhite quail populations which have declined by as much as 90 percent in some areas. Stop by to see quail expert and host of Wingshooting USA Scott Linden and discuss all things upland.

Additionally, a limited number of complimentary tickets are available to Pheasants Forever’s largest banquets of the year, taking place Friday and Saturday evenings, for working media personnel. Recently announced, Congressman Paul Ryan will be giving the keynote address at Saturday evening’s banquet.

Pheasants Forever launched Quail Forever in August of 2005 to address the continuing loss of habitat suitable for quail and the subsequent quail population decline. Bobwhite population losses over the last 25 years range from 60 to 90 percent across the country. The reason for the quail population plunge is simple - massive losses of habitat suitable for quail. There are five major factors leading to the losses of quail habitat; intensified farming and forestry practices, succession of grassland ecosystems to forests, overwhelming presence of exotic grasses like fescue that choke out wildlife, and urban sprawl.
