SCI Offers Online Bidding During the 2014 Convention Auctions

SCI members who can’t attend the 42nd Annual Hunters’ Convention can still get great deals at SCI auctions and support the club and its missions by bidding online during the auctions. Online bidders will be able to bid on the same great hunts, art, and firearms usually reserved for convention attendees.

“We are excited to be able to offer to SCI members the ability to participate in our famous Convention auctions even if they are unable to attend the Convention in person,” said Libby Grimes, SCI Convention Director. “Members can go online and view the items that will be for sale at the different auctions and decide which ones they would like to bid on. Then when the auctions start, they can participate in the auction online.”

An SCI member number is the key to bidding remotely on items offered for sale at SCI’s daily live and evening auctions. If you are not an SCI member, you can join by going to http://member.scifirstforhunters.org/join/.

To view the items online that will be up for auction, interested bidders can go to http://auction.safariclub.org/auctionlist.aspx. Once on the site, members use their member number to register to bid. Interested bidders will then be able to watch the auctions live on the SCI simulcast feed and bid along with fellow SCI members in the auction room.

Auction policies should be reviewed and understood before bidding. Auction policies can be downloaded at http://auction.safariclub.org/policy.aspx.

Auction.SafariClub.org is a secure site and participants’ information will not be shared.

Call 866-313-0123 for assistance in registering. Winning online bidders will be charged a daily convention admission fee. To participate in the auctions online, interested participants must be registered by Tuesday, February 4 by 2:00 pm PST /5:00 pm EST.

Protecting hunters’ rights and promoting wildlife conservation, SCI’s two areas of focus, historically has been the interest of hundreds of individuals long before SCI was established. But how did SCI as an organization begin?

Forty years ago, there were many safari clubs across the country made up of local, unaffiliated groups of hunters. One such was Safari Club of Los Angeles, which was formed in April 1971 by forty-seven individuals. In early 1972, an out-of-towner from a similar club in Chicago attended one of the monthly Wednesday night meetings, and it was decided that the L.A. club should attempt to combine with the one in Chicago to make it an affiliated chapter. The founder of Safari Club of Los Angeles, C.J. McElroy, went to the Windy City and instituted the new chapter.

Eleven months after the formation of Safari Club of Los Angeles, on March 9, 1972, the name was changed officially to Safari Club International. SCI continued to reach out to other independent safari clubs throughout the United States in an effort to combine them into a single overall organization.

Today, interest in SCI’s two primary missions has grown a worldwide network. Subsequent involvement and promotion of these missions is rooted in each of our 55,000 members, supported through each of our 190 membership chapters found across the globe, and put into action by government representatives and personnel both nationally and internationally.

In this way, we can encourage an appreciation for nature and wildlife so that conservation efforts remain strong, while also fighting to protect our rich hunting heritage. Big changes can be achieved through the endeavors of many who are united in a mission – the mission of Safari Club International.
