Walmart BFL Competition Announces Feb. 15, 2014 Tournaments
OutdoorHub 02.04.14
The 2014 Walmart BFL season continues with three tournaments on Saturday, Feb. 15. The South Carolina division will head to Lake Murray, the Mississippi division will hit Pickwick Lake and the Music City division will tackle Kentucky Lake. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in the event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.
WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014
WHERE:
South Carolina Division
Lake Murray
Dreher Island State Park
3677 State Park Road
Prosperity, S.C.
NOTES:The bass fishing on Lake Murray is expected to be good. The fish are likely to be in their winter pattern and anglers figure to spend most of their time fishing for suspended fish or fishing in deeper and steeper areas. Jerkbaits, jigging spoons, umbrella rigs, Shad Raps and jigs all figure to play a role in the competitors’ game plans. The winner is expected to bring a five-bass limit weighing around 20 pounds to the scales.
WHERE:
Mississippi Division
Pickwick Lake
JP Coleman State Park
613 County Road 321
Iuka, Miss.
NOTES: The bass fishing on Pickwick Lake should be excellent. Anglers will likely find catchable fish in winter patterns and early pre-spawn haunts. Lipless crankbaits fished in grass, umbrella rigs fished around main-lake structure and current, crankbaits, jerkbaits, swimbaits and jigs should be popular among the field. Pickwick has been extraordinarily productive the last few years and the winner of this event will likely bring in a five-bass limit over 25 pounds.
WHERE:
Music City Division
Kentucky Lake
Paris Landing State Park Marina
16055 Highway 79 North
Buchanan, Tenn.
NOTES: The bass fishing on Kentucky Lake should be good. Jigs, crankbaits, blade baits, umbrella rigs and jerkbaits are expected to be important to the field. The fish will be in a winter pattern and positioned around main-lake current, gravel bars and steep banks – all classic wintertime areas. Though many boat launches around the lake have been iced in, the weather is expected and warm and the bite should do the same. It will probably take a five-bass limit weighing over 20 pounds to win this event.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2014 BFL All-American is being held June 5-7 on Wilson Lake in Florence, Ala. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
