Venezuela’s lock on the High International title at the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship remains in place as Miguel Angel Sanchez led a Venezuelan sweep of the top four spots in the contest among non-U.S. shooters.
Some 30 shooters representing Italy, Venezuela and the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico battled for the High International title.
Sanchez, who competed as a Master in the Stock Service Pistol division, finished with a time of 221.45 seconds with 110 points down. Second place went to Nelso Lopez Iglesias, a Master shooter in the Enhanced Service Pistol division, with 227.76 (80).
Coming in third was the 2012 winner and fellow countryman Juan Carlos Gonzalez Valdez who competed as a Master in the Enhanced Service Pistol division, finishing with 227.76 (80). Rounding out the top five were Rafahel Gandica, another ESP Master, with 243.34 (142) and Puerto Rico’s Max Rivera who finished with 278.53 (149) competing as an SSP Master.
“The Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals always draws a large number of international shooters. This year we welcome Miguel as our newest International champion,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.
The 2014 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship took place February 20-22 at the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Mass., drawing many of the shooting sports’ top pistol and revolver shooters from across the country and outside the U.S. Full results are available online at IDPA.com.
