Dodge County High School claimed top shooting honors at the fourth Georgia National Archery in the Schools Program regional tournament.
Dodge County High’s archery team shot a 3,175 to win the overall team title, beating out 12 other schools to qualify for the 8th annual Georgia-NASP State Tournament April 8 at the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.
Dodge County Middle School in Eastman won the middle school division with a team score of 3,032, while Vidalia Heritage Academy captured the elementary division crown with a team score of 2,539. Both Dodge County Middle and Vidalia Heritage teams receive automatic bids to the state tournament for winning regional division titles.
Dodge County High’s Joshua Peterson led the field with a 286 (out of 300) to win the overall highest scoring male archer. Dodge County High’s Chelsea Barrentine arrowed a 281 to capture the overall highest scoring female award.
Other top individual shooters included: Dodge County Middle’s Josh Williams (271, top middle school male); Johnson County Middle’s Jodie Sumner (268, top middle school female); Bulluch Academy’s Harrison Kennedy (263, top elementary school male); and Bulloch Academy’s Garris Boykin (251, top elementary school female).
More than 220 students in elementary, middle and high school competed at Georgia-NASP Regional No. 4 at Johnson County High. Other competing schools were Bulloch Academy, Habersham School, L.K. Moss Primary School, Johnson County Middle and High, Jones County High and Bible Baptist Christian. Final tournament results are posted at www.nasptournaments.org.
Schools that did not win their division and an automatic berth to state at the regional tournament can still be selected as a high-scoring wildcard team after the final regional tournament is completed March 1. Wildcard standings will be posted at www.georgiawildlife.com/NASP along with regional, state and national tournament rules, regulations, and more.
More than 1,500 student archers have registered to compete in the seven regional Georgia-NASP tournaments held Feb. 1-March 1. The remaining regional tournaments will be held in Demorest (Feb. 22), Valdosta (March 1) and Fort Valley (March 1).
