Archery Hunters Advised to Carry Bear Spray

Bear encounters can go from curious to aggressive in seconds. Charging bears can cover over 30 feet per second. Some state departments of wildlife and fisheries, especially in states where it is illegal to carry a sidearm while bow hunting, are encouraging archery hunters to carry bear spray.
The FRONTIERSMAN’s 9.2 oz canister fires 35 feet, up to 15 feet further than other bear sprays. The dual propellant system delivers approximately two ounces per one-second burst – up to 84% more stopping power.
“Bear spray has been proven to be a good last line of defense, if kept handy and used according to directions when a bear is approaching within 30-60 feet,” said the National Park Service in a recent press release.
FRONTIERSMAN has been evaluated and approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has determined that Bear Attack Deterrent Sprays must contain at least 1% Capsaicin and Related Capsaicinoids (CRC) and no more than 2% CRC. CRC is the heat bearing and pain-producing element in Bear Attack Deterrent Sprays. FRONTIERSMAN contains the maximum strength allowed by the EPA.
FRONTIERSMAN is tested and used by professionals at Elmendorf Airforce Base in Elmendorf, Alaska. It has been repeatedly proven effective at deterring charging bears.
To prevent accidental discharge, FRONTIERSMAN features a glow-in-the-dark safety wedge. The safety wedge also makes it easier to locate the canister at night. FRONTIERSMAN is available at most major outdoor retailers or online. MSRP is $45.99-$59.99.
