The Pope & Young Club is proud to announce the results of the 2014 Board of Directors election. On Sunday, March 2nd, ballots were counted by member-volunteer election judges. The results were posted on the Club’s website Monday, March 3rd.
The Club would like to congratulate those individuals who were elected and sincerely thank all members who stepped forward to serve on the Board of Directors. We received an 82% return from the Regular and Senior Members and a 20% return from the General Membership. Changes to the board are as follows: Jim Willems (New Mexico) is the new President, Roger Atwood (Idaho) moves to the Past President seat. Tom Nelson (Michigan) has moved from Director to 1st V.P. and John Gardner (Colorado) retains his seat as 2nd V.P. Todd Brickel (Colorado) and Doug Clayton (Iowa) fill two of the Director seats. M.R James (Indiana) and Glenn Hisey (Minnesota) end their long and honorable service as members of the Pope & Young Club Board of Directors.
“I am deeply honored to serve as President of the Pope & Young Club,” says President-Elect Jim Willems. “As a young bowhunter who idolized Jim Dougherty and Fred Asbell, I joined the Club to be part of the history and tradition they represented. As the President of the Pope & Young Club, I will do all I can to maintain and honor that heritage. Bowhunters today hunt with everything from self bows and flint to the latest compound with expandables. Ever since they started gluing fiberglass to wood bows, we have had to revise our idea of what “bowhunting” is and I think we can find a way to embrace the future, while honoring the past.”
“This organization has a tremendous 53-year track record of successful advocacy for bowhunting, for bowhunting’s values and for the principles of fair chase,” says Kevin Hisey, Executive Secretary for the Pope & Young Club. “We look forward to continuing that advocacy and the programs utilized to carry out that mission, while exploring new avenues to further that same cause.”
“It is a huge honor to serve as the Pope & Young Club’s 1st V.P.,” says Tom Nelson. “I look forward to building on the great work that the Pope & Young Club has done throughout the years. From our Conservation efforts to our Records program, the Pope & Young Club is the leader in protecting and defending our bowhunting heritage.”
Established in 1961, the Pope and Young Club is a non-profit North American conservation and bowhunting organization dedicated to the promotion and protection of our bowhunting heritage, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation.
