This Week on The Revolution – Spring Prevention Techniques
OutdoorHub 04.02.14
This week Jim and Trav will have the 4-1-1 on Spring Prevention. So gear up for survival techniques, preventing bear attacks and avoiding severe illness caused by flies, mosquitoes and ticks! Also, how to properly outfit your fellow boaters with PFD’s and, finally, forest fire prevention.
Survival Techniques
Even though the weather is warming, most people forget just how cold the water can be. All it takes is an unexpected wave, the tug of a big fish, or a little clumsiness to send you into the frigid water. The consequences of this type of accident can quickly lead to hypothermia. Survival expert Tim MacWelch joins Jim and Trav to talk about how to treat and avoid hypothermia.
Preventing Bear Attacks
Every year it seems we hear reports of increased human/bear encounters and attacks. In almost every instance though, it is the human in the equation that has done something to trigger the bear to feel threatened and then to protect themselves. Joel Zachry biologist and author will explain how to avoid bear attacks while you are out in nature.
ThermaCELL
Mosquitoes cause a tremendous amount of human suffering with more than one-million people worldwide succumbing to mosquito borne diseases each year. Having a safe and effective way to combat pesky insects while in the woods is a necessity. Allegra Lowitt with ThermaCELL will talk about their unique units designed to keep you bug free!
Forest Fires
Last year saw a devastating wildfire season with the loss of life, property and more. California’s Rim Fire was the third largest in the state’s history and it was ignited by a hunter’s fire that got out of control. Sheryl Page from the Forest Service talks about how to avoid unintentionally igniting a blaze this season and the proper protocol to follow in the woods.
