International Bowhunters Organization Spring National Competition to be held at West Virgina’s Pipestem Resort State Park

Pipestem Resort State Park, the International Bowhunters Organization (IBO), and Backwoods Bowhunters of Princeton, W.Va., are teaming to conduct the IBO Spring National Competition the weekend of April 11-13, 2014. This event is expected to draw approximately 600-800 competitors, and spectators are welcome.

“Pipestem, like nearly every West Virginia state park, does not charge an entry fee, so this is a great way to enjoy a low-cost weekend,” said Pipestem Supt. David Caplinger. “Some lodge rooms and campsites are still available for those wanting to stay overnight. The park, as usual, is offering a great slate of additional activities and programming for guests.”

Event organizer Larry Kade invites competitors and the public alike to turn out and enjoy the spectacle. “This is a great event with a great family atmosphere. Whole families come out and compete in and watch the various classes, ranging from traditional all the way up to the highest level of compound archers.”

The competition will take place at the park’s recreation center. Competitor registration begins at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 10 and runs through 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Amateur registration is $42, and trophies and cash prizes are offered.

Competitions begin at 7 a.m. Friday, April 11, and the ranges remain open until dark Friday and Saturday. Children age 8 and younger may compete as Future Bowhunters, and will shoot at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12. The event will conclude Sunday, April 13, with the final competitions and awards wrapping up by 2 p.m.

Pipestem is located in Summers County between Athens and Hinton on Route 20. For more information about accommodations and activities, visit www.pipestemresort.com
