USMC Colt M45 Close Quarters Battle Pistol Highlights June Issue of GUNS Magazine
OutdoorHub 04.09.14
With the classic lines and feel of the original Colt 1911, the latest edition of the Marine Corps-issued Close Quarters Battle Pistol whisks writer John Connor back in time in the June issue of GUNS Magazine. With the addition of modern innovation and a sleek M3 Tactical Illuminator, the new M45 Colt proves its worth for both today’s Marine and the 1911 enthusiast.
“Colt’s tactical ambidextrous thumb safety is just wide enough to assure a positive ‘sweep,’ without the clumsy effect of many of the exaggerated ‘whale tail’ safety levers found on a lot of high-end custom 1911’s,” writes Connor. “With the military ball our ‘best of five,’ 5-shot groups at 15 yards, 1-handed, ran 2×1.5″ — now that’s some fine performance from a battle pistol!”
This issue’s Rimfire column and Out Of The Box feature includes stories from Holt Bodinson and John Taffin, who review the AMT Automag II and Uberti Silverboy Levergun respectively. Bodinson finds the AMT Automag II — the first successful .22 Magnum pistol ever marketed to the general public — is still every bit as desirable years later.
“Visually it looks like a sleek stainless steel blend of an open-framed Beretta and a 1911 Colt,” writes Bodinson. “Some of the interesting features of the single-action Automag II include a 9-shot, stainless steel magazine with a release at the heel of the grip, a fully adjustable 3-dot sight system, a hammer-blocking safety at your right thumb, a squared-off triggerguard and the list goes on.”
This issue of GUNS also features Mike “Duke” Venturino’s study of five WWII sniper systems, Dave Anderson’s investigation of the CZ 527 7.62x39mm Carbine and Pat Covert’s exploration of a cross-section of folding knives.
