Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Georgetown 2-Day Super Event

This past Friday & Saturday April 25th & 26st the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Black, Sampit, Santee, Waccomaw and PeeDee Rivers for a 2-day $10,000.00 Super Event. In the event several of the top anglers from 5 different states were competing  not only for the cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina. Be sure to check out our website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the team of Brian Tanner of Hemingway, South Carolina and Bryon Lavoie of Andrews, South Carolina weighing in 108.68 pounds and earning $4,000.00. Brian and Bryon were anchored in 20-30 feet of water on the Waccomaw River both days using bluegill as bait. The team weighed in 10 flatheads total in the 2-days with the largest weighing 17.18 pounds. Each team is allowed to weigh in 5 fish each day.

In second place was Mark Lawson of Round O, South Carolina and Ralph Wiley of Walterboro, South Carolina weighing in 82.84 pounds and earning $2,000.00. The team also captured big fish of the event with a 32.36 pound cat giving the team an additional $470.00. Mark and Ralph were anchored down in 10-40 feet of water in the Santee River around Harrison Landing using cut river herring. Their big fish came out of 18 feet of water.

Third place went to James Matherly of Pamplico, South Carolina and Dennis Matherly of Florence, South Carolina weighing in 80.62 pounds and earning $1,000.00. James and Dennis were fishing the southernmost border of Pee Dee River around the Hwy 17 bridge, anchored using cut shad in 18-25 feet of water.

Terrance Springs Sr. & Jr. of Chester, South Carolina took fourth place with a weight of 77.54 pounds and earning $500.00. The team was fishing the Santee River around Harrison Landing in 6 feet of water using cut shad both days. They had caught 20 fish on day 1 but only 4 fish on day 2.

Fifth place went to the team of Curt Stines of Pawleys Island, South Carolina and Burt Jenkins of Leland, North Carolina with 62.22 pounds and earning $300.00. Curt and Burt were fishing the Waccomaw River anchored in 20 feet of water using eels and bluegill to catch 20 fish in the 2 days.

Cabela’s King Kat Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Cabela’s King Kat held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic this fall.

Cabela’s King Kat, Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Outdoor Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Cabela’s King Kat, “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
