Gold Tip Pro, Levi Morgan, once again found himself standing tall on the winner’s podium at the recent ASA event held in London, KY, May 30th – June 1st at the Laurel County Fairgrounds. For Morgan, this was a repeat performance, having won the London, KY event in 2013. This is also Morgan’s second ASA win of the 2014 season, and Morgan’s second win in consecutive weeks, with his recent IBO win in Bedford, IN, May 23rd-May 25th.
Fellow Gold Tip Pro Staffer, Chance Beaubouef gave Morgan a run for his money during Saturday’s opening round, with both archers finishing the day at 222. But at the end of Sunday’s second round, Morgan had pulled ahead of the pack and held a four-point lead heading into the final shoot off. Aside from a tournament victory, day two also found Morgan chasing Jack Wallace’s 2002 all time two-round record of +48, but fell just shy, ending at 446 and +46 for the opening two rounds. Pro Division contestants shoot two rounds of twenty targets from unmarked distances that vary in distance up to 50 yards. The five highest scores from the first two rounds qualify for the shoot-off to decide the winner. Arrows are scored as 8’s, 10’s, and 12’s. As an additional measure of success, Pro 12’s are accumulated throughout the weekend and designated as +2 per 12-ring scored. Of the opening two rounds of 40 targets, Morgan shot 23 12’s and was, therefore, +46 for his opening rounds.
Morgan’s Gold Tip arrows hadn’t found anything less than a 10-ring all weekend, but after two 8’s in a row for the first two targets of the final shoot off, Morgan found himself in a tie for the lead. Then, after dropping out of the lead, all together, after his fourth arrow, Levi fought back with a 12 on the fifth target to tie it back up. It all came down to one final arrow and Morgan’s own nerves of steel. Sailing an arrow into the 10-ring, on the sixth and final target, Morgan sealed his victory.
“I’d come prepared, felt good about my equipment set-up and shot well all weekend,” said Morgan, “I’m just so thankful for the win this weekend and having my family there with me made it so much sweeter! I can’t thank everyone enough for all their support.”
Morgan wasn’t alone in the final shoot-off, with fellow Gold Tip Pro Staffers Chance Beaubouef and Tim Gillingham also shooting their way to the top. Gillingham and Morgan were both shooting Gold Tip’s Triple X Pros, while Beaubouef was using Gold Tip’s X-Cutter Ultralight Pro Series. All three were using Bee Stinger Stabilizer Systems. In total, 9 of the top 10 shooters in the Men’s Pro Division were shooting Bee Stinger Stabilizer Systems
In the Senior Pro Division, Gold Tip swept the top three spots with Art Brown taking home the win.
“Week in and week out, these professionals test the limits of their equipment and Gold Tip arrows take them to the top, “ said Mitch McKay, Gold Tip Sales Director. “The consistency and toughness of Gold Tip arrows give them the confidence needed to shoot aggressively and win!”
