Reed and Mike open with some rifle assembly tips earned by years of experience, and many builds. They emphasize some of the basic smithing guidelines for beginners and first timers, such as don’t don’t drink and build. Other tips include labeling container parts and preparing a good plan for the build.
The main topic of this week’s show is training kit. Now that you have your black rifle, what other equipment do you need to train effectively with it? Formal training will likely require equipment. Apart from the guidance about the gear, the guys give some sagely advice about the training, selection, and keeping reality firmly within view when choosing your training.
Mike takes listeners through some of the kit variances such as plate carriers, chest rigs, vests, and load bearing equipment with no protective qualities. The uses overlap, but each has its uses and merits. He points out that the modular nature of many of the equipment available make for an endless variety of possibilities. What to buy? One of the major differences in the types of rigs is full MOLLE versus preset kit. Reed and Mike pull from their collected experience in law enforcement and military to discuss some of the advantages of full modularity or generic use equipment. Another thing they touch on is the issue of whether this rig needs to have protective qualities. Is the user running rifle plates? Soft armor? Or rather, is it a first-on-scene kit where speed is key.
