Peters & May Charity Clay Pigeon Shoot 2014, Supporting Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

Peters & May held its annual Clay Pigeon Shoot on Friday 6th June at Pennsport Shooting School, West Berkshire, proudly supporting its chosen Charity, Breast Cancer Clinical Trials (BCCT). Guests were treated to a stunning day of shooting, whilst their generosity enabled Peters & May to raise a considerable amount of money for the charity.

The Breast Cancer Clinical Trials Charity is one of the largest facilities north of London. The charity has raised over £1.8 million which has been used to purchase specialist equipment, introduce new initiatives and fund further research into the disease itself. So far, fundraising efforts such as the Peters & May Clay Pigeon Shoot have helped BCCT to conduct 30 clinical trials, leading to new drugs receiving approval from the Food and Drugs Administration and the European Union as standard treatment. A beauty parlour called Fabulous and Beautiful has also been set up to deal with the physical and psychological aspects of the change in appearance that occurs whilst undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, helping to improve the patients’ self esteem and well being during the course of the treatment. It is also a great base where patients can develop friendships with those going through the same experience.
Peters & May staff were joined in their support of BCCT by clients and suppliers totalling fifty two shooters, who fired approximately 40,000 cartridges over the course of the day. Clients included, among others, representatives from Sunseeker London, Bennetti Yachts, Sunseeker International, Oyster Marine and Ventura Yachts.
In addition to the shoot, P&M held an auction which included items such as an original piece of art and crockery signed by Pure Evil, a full team signed Southampton Football Club shirt, a half day charter on a Sunseeker Carmargue 50 and a corporate sailing day with members of RYA Team GBR and Mike Golding OBE. A combination of the exceptional quality of the auction lots, number of desirable raffle prizes, and the generosity of the guests, enabled P&M to beat its fundraising target of £10,000.
Mike Golding OBE sent a letter of appreciation, in which he comments “Many thanks for the invitation to join you on Friday at the charity clay pigeon shoot. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, which was meticulously organised by the team running the shoot. It was quite a contrast to be in the beautiful Berkshire countryside instead of the Solent on such a glorious day – plus, I had some nice shoulder bruising war wounds from my efforts!”
Peters & May is continuing to find innovative ways to raise money for Breast Cancer Clinical Trials, and looks forward to announcing its next idea in the near future.
