Crappie USA 2014 Tournament Results for Mississinewa & Salamonie Lakes Near Wabash, Indiana

This past Saturday June 14th Crappie USA held a qualifying event on Mississinewa and Salamonie Lakes at Wabash, Indiana. Anglers from 8 different states as far away as Oregon were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held October 16th-18th on Lake Cumberland at Somerset, Kentucky.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Robert Raymer of Greenfield, Indiana and Kevin Wells of Camby, Indiana with a weight of 4.21 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Robert and Kevin were fishing Mississinewa pulling jigs and also fished minnow rigs in 7 to 11 feet of water catching their fish at 4 to 5 feet and caught over 100 for the day.
Second place went to the Anderson, Indiana team of Ron Bilbrey and Don Mandrell with 4.21 pounds and earning $600.00. Ron and Don were fishing Salamonie spider rigging in 8 to 15 feet of water using Southern Pro jigs tipped with shiners catching their at 4 to 6 feet and caught over a hundred fish for the day.
In third place was the 3 person team of Dallas Thomas of Elwood, Indiana and Greg Caldwell of Noblesville, Indiana along with their 3rd partner Michael Ferguson which is Dallas’s Grandson. The team was not available for the interview.
The Ranger Cup Award went to the Semi-Pro Team of Vandeventer and Martin earning $250.00.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division went to the Dave Bowser of Marion, Indiana and Mike Morrison of Muncie, Indiana weighing in 5.79 pounds and earning $700.00. Dave and Mike were fishing Salamonie in 2 to 9 feet of water casting jigs and minnows with a float around wood and caught over 100 fish for the day.
Second place went to Tom Dubensky of Cement City, Michigan and Dave Willoughby of Chelsea, Michigan weighing in 5.03 pounds and earning $450.00. Tom and Dave fished
Mississinewa pulling crank for first 3 hours then went to long line trolling curly tail jigs in 15 to 47 feet of water catching their suspended fish at 8 to 12 feet.
In third was the team of Michael Eviston of Wabash, Indiana and Douglas Clay of Largo, Indiana with 4.19 and earning $300.00. Michael and Douglas fished Salamonie spider rigging with white Road Runners and minnow rigs catching their larger fish on Road Runners and caught 50 to 75 fish for the day.
Taking fourth place with 4.14 pounds was the team of J.W. Jackson of Tullahoma, Tennessee and Ed Waliski of Lynchburg, Tennessee earning $200.00. J.W. and Ed were fishing Salamonie with jigs and minnows in 3 to 10 ft of water casting to blow downs and caught a BUNCH of fish maybe a hundred or so.
The Ranger Cup Award in the Amateur Division went to Millsap and Noblitt earning $125.00.
1st Big Fish went to Claywell and Bennett with a 1.48 pound crappie and earning $290.50.
Second biggest fish went to Bowser and Morrison with a 1.16 pound crappie and earning $124.50.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with local children attending the event.. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.
Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
