This year’s 12th Annual Shooting Industry Masters will again feature a Masters First Shots Orientation Class, a two-hour session on Friday morning, July 18. Novice shooters attending the Masters can take this short course and learn from the best before the main shooting events get under way, with members of the USA Shooting Team serving as instructors.
“Some might be surprised to find out many who attend the Shooting Industry Masters have little or no experience actually shooting,” said Roy Huntington, publisher of FMG’s consumer magazines and lead instructor for the event. “On the first day of the Masters, we’ll be hosting a First Shots event to help those dozens of new shooters demystify some basic shooting rules and get some actual trigger time on match guns.”
Seven USA Shooting Team athletes will provide firsthand instruction and each athlete is a champion in his or her specific discipline of shotgun, rifle and pistol. Instructors include current Olympic Skeet National Champion Amber English, along with Matt Gossett, Ian Rupert, SSG Brad Balsley, Emily Holsopple, Caitlin Connor and Dania Vizzi.
“USA Shooting Team representatives are excited to participate in this year’s Shooting Industry Masters and lend their expertise to training First Shots participants at the Masters,” said Corrie West, USA Shooting Team director of resource development programs. “Having an opportunity for our U.S. Team members to turn from being coached to coaching and sharing their knowledge with new shooters is a very rewarding experience.”
The Masters First Shots class is provided at no charge, with guns, ammunition and targets all supplied. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of free instruction from up-and-coming athletes and established champions in the shooting sports has only 50 openings available and spots are filling up fast.
“I encourage anyone who is new to the shooting sports to take advantage of the experience, knowledge and skills these young people have to offer,” said Tisma Juett, First Shots manager. “We are very grateful to FMG Publications for their generosity and for the support of the entire industry as we continue to assist ranges in introducing more new people to the shooting sports.”
