Three Junior World Championship Team members highlight the 12-person shotgun squad that will compete beginning Thursday in the season’s final International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Beijing, China, site of the 2008 Olympic Games.
World Clay Target Championship medalists from 2013 Ian Rupert (Muncy, Pennsylvania) and Dania Vizzi (Odessa, Florida) are using Beijing as a tune-up to U.S. National Championships and the World Championships. Rupert, a double trap gold medalist at the recent Junior Cup in Suhl, Germany, will be joined by Dale Royer (Jackson, Montana) as they look to continue a winning trend in men’s double trap for USA Shooting with six medals in four international events this season. Vizzi finish fourth at the Junior Cup after being tied for the lead through qualifying with teammate Hannah Houston (Columbia, Tennessee).
Shooting begins Thursday with Men’s and Women’s Trap where 2013 World Junior Champion Miranda Wilder (Diana, Texas) and reigning two-time National Champion Brian Burrows (Fallbrook, California) will be competing. Also shooting trap will be Susan Sledge (El Cajon, California) and Anthony Materese (Pennsville, New Jersey). Fifty-two men’s trap competitors are present along with 31 women’s trap participants.
Derek Haldeman (USAMU/Sunbury, Ohio) is the third Double Trap competitor attending and will take to the line alongside Rupert and Royer on Sunday, July 6. They’ll compete against 26 other double trap competitors.
National Champion Amber English (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and multi-time U.S. Championship medalist Caitlin Connor (Winnfield, Louisiana) will join Vizzi in skeet competition on Tuesday, July 8. William Stewart (USAMU/Columbia, Tennessee) and Nick Boerboon (Prior Lake, Minnesota) will compete in the Men’s Skeet event on July 8-9. Women’s Skeet features a field of 33 contestants while Men’s Skeet has 52 entries.
