The International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) kicked off today in Orlando, Florida. Considered by many to be the largest trade show in the recreational fishing industry, ICAST hosts 10,000 industry professionals every year in a showcase of the newest innovations, gear, and accessories set to hit the market.
The schedule for ICAST may be filled with business education seminars and shows, but the true draw of the convention is the hundreds of exhibitors eager to draw attention to their wares. For the next few days, ICAST will be home to some of the best and brightest in sportfishing. The products on display can range from variations on the traditional to new ideas like the Straighcast reel.
“It’s really a great networking place, to see the new products, see what’s new, what’s hot. You have to come, you can’t not come,” said Andy Kurkulis, the owner of a Chicago fly fishing outfitter.
Whether seasoned campaigners or those new to ICAST, exhibitors are all hopeful that they will win the trade show’s prestigious “Best of Show” awards. ICAST’s New Product Showcase includes awards in 21 different categories such as freshwater rods, fly reels, or hard lures, as well as the overall “Best of Show” award based on votes by registered buyers and media attendees. Winning a category or the overall show best is a sure way to drive attention to your product. Guests can also attend a State of the Industry Breakfast, conservation lectures, and marketing seminars.
