Montana Man Cited for Poaching Deer, Goose

A Cascade area man could pay $3,375 in fines and restitution for illegally killing two mule deer bucks last fall and a Canada goose March 31.
Terry L. Denham, 52, was charged with shooting waterfowl in a closed season, two counts of taking big game without a license, unlawful possession of a big game animal, and taking an over limit of mule deer bucks.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks game wardens discovered Denham’s pickup yesterday with goose feathers in the back end while patrolling the Dearborn River, which is closed to fishing until May 19.
When contacting Denham at his house they found two mule deer buck heads from last fall in the yard. After questioning, Denham admitted to shooting the goose with a .22-caliber rifle.
He also admitted to not having a license last fall when he shot the two mule deer bucks –one Oct. 22, the other on Nov. 10.
Denham faces up to $2,375 in fines: $135 for shooting waterfowl in a closed season; $1,070 for the two counts of taking big game without a license; $635 for unlawful possession; and $535 for the over limit of mule deer bucks. In addition he could pay restitution of $1,000 total for the two deer and the possibility of six months in jail for each charge.
