OutdoorHub 07.31.14
Following up on a pair of New England shark tournaments held this summer to provide proceeds to the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA), there are a few more Atlantic Coast tournaments coming up in August which will help safeguard your right to fish!
White Marlin Open
First up is the 41st Annual White Marlin Open to be held from August 4th through the 8th out of Harbour Island Marina in Ocean City, MD. The captains meeting will be held this Sunday, August 3rd at 7 p.m. with fishing to begin Monday morning at 8:30.
Following the Sunday captain’s meeting at 7 p.m., fishing will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 4th as tournament participants can fish any three days, from August 4-8, with weigh-ins back at Harbour Island Marina each afternoon.
Ocean City always lives up to its title of “The White Marlin Capital of the World” and this year’s 41st annual White Marlin Open is sure to be another big event, with a portion of annual tournament proceeds going towards RFA to support our ongoing efforts to protect the rights of coastal anglers and businesses.

Shillelagh Fluke Tournament
The tournament trail heads north the following week – and a bit farther to the west too, as the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore will host their 7th Annual Fluke Tournament on August 16th with $10,000 in prizes including a $4,500 top prize and $2,000 for second.
The Shillelagh has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years as one of the more popular inshore tournaments, with a huge picnic held at the Shillelagh Club, 815 16th Avenue in Belmar, NJ on tournament day starting at 3 p.m. But first off is the Captain’s meeting which is set for Friday, August 15th starting at 6:30 p.m. at the club.
RFA staff will be manning a table – we’ll have a list of current, active RFA members, so be sure to check in first to qualify for the RFA ‘calcutta’ prize for the largest member-caught summer flounder of the tournament. Tournament proceeds from the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore fluke tournament will benefit the FSOS Foundation and the Recreational Fishing Alliance.

The Mid-Atlantic
On Sunday, August 17th, join RFA for registration, cocktail party welcome and captains meeting for the 23rd Annual Mid-Atlantic. The actual captains meeting gets underway at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday the 17th, simultaneously at Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May, NJ and Sunset Marina in Ocean City, MD.
Our friends at South Jersey Marina have once again invited RFA in under the grand tent to run the Mega Marlin in 2014 – in fact, RFA’s return to the big tent coincides with more big news for contest organizers who have opened up the 2014 event to offer more ways to win while provide opportunities for attendees to compete for even bigger prize money!
Now entering in its 23rd year, the Mid-Atlantic is well-known as the World’s Richest Marlin & Tuna Tournament (with more than $1.8 million paid out to contestants in 2013) and is officially set for August 17-22, 2014. The Mid-Atlantic takes place from the two Atlantic coast ports and is internationally known for its great fishing, hospitality and camaraderie, and is a must attend event for competitive billfish anglers.
