Fish Hard & Win Big with the RFA
OutdoorHub 08.15.14
It’s tournament time at the Jersey Shore, and the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) is helping bring you more opportunities to win big on both the inshore and offshore grounds.
First up is the 7th Annual Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore Fluke Tournament this Saturday, August 16th, with $10,000 in prizes including a $4,500 top prize and $2,000 for second. RFA and Shillelagh volunteers have collected thousands dollars worth of raffle items for the Saturday awards party – plus, when you register tonight, be sure to enter the RFA ‘members only’ Calcutta for a shot at $250 for the top fluke weighed in by an RFA member.
Check your membership card, if it’s up-to-date and active, all you have to do is check in during the registration (or it’s just $35 for RFA membership at the captains meeting, which automatically qualifies you for the ‘members only’ Calcutta.)
The Shillelagh has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years as one of the most popular inshore tournaments at the Shore, with a huge picnic held at the Shillelagh Club, 815 16th Avenue in Belmar, NJ on tournament day starting at 3 p.m. The Captain’s meeting set for Friday, August 15th starting at 6:30 p.m. at the club. Tournament proceeds from the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore fluke tournament will benefit the FSOS Foundation and the Recreational Fishing Alliance. And how would you like to win a weekend stay and day of fishing at Los Ranchos Lodge in Guatemala? RFA staff and volunteers are actively gathering up donations for the giant Mega Marlin raffle at the 23rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Tournament out of Cape May, NJ (and Ocean City, MD). While some folks are flukin’ and others are gearing up for the Sunday captains meeting for the Mid-Atlantic, RFA will be packing the main stage at the Canyon Club in Cape May with gear and equipment from likes of Canyon Runner, ARC, Engle coolers, Release Marine, Black Bart, Squid Nation dredges, Ballyhood lures, Thule, Ocean Max Reels and Sports Authority; apparel from Maui Jim, Pelagic, and Avid Sportswear; artwork from Steve Goione, K.C. Scott, Larry McCarter and Alan James Robinson; special getaways and items from Sailfish Marina Resort, Jupiter Beach Resort and Willow Creek Winery, as well fine jewelry and furnishings by Springhill Road, Provident Jewelers and Pineapples and Palms.
There’s also a serious pot of cash, plus the Guatemala fishing trip, a white marlin mount care of Gray Taxidermy, and four truck-mounted rod racks from Pipe Dreams Marine which will be on display on of the Gentilini Chevy of Cape May, with more items being collected every day!
On Sunday, August 17th, join RFA for registration, cocktail party welcome and captains meeting for the 23rd Annual Mid-Atlantic Tournament. The actual captains meeting gets underway at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday the 17th, simultaneously at Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May, NJ and Sunset Marina in Ocean City, MD.
Now entering in its 23rd year, the Mid-Atlantic is well-known as the World’s Richest Marlin & Tuna Tournament (with more than $1.8 million paid out to contestants in 2013) and is officially set for August 17-22, 2014. The Mid-Atlantic takes place from the two Atlantic coast ports and is internationally known for its great fishing, hospitality and camaraderie, and is a must attend event for competitive billfish anglers.
