Austin Man Wins $5,000 Playing FLW Fantasy Fishing

Virgle Sutton of Austin, Texas, correctly picked seven of the top 10 anglers in last week’s world championship of bass fishing, the Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Murray presented by Walmart. For his picks, Sutton won $5,000 by simply signing up and selecting his team at FantasyFishing.com.

“I watched the weigh-in online every day,” said Sutton, who fished on the Walmart FLW Tour as a co-angler in 2009. “I tried to select anglers who I thought would be fishing both deep and shallow. I had studied the lake conditions for the tournament and chose anglers based on how their skills matched up.

“I had the tournament winner Anthony Gagliardi on my team, as well as third-place finished Brent Ehrler,” Sutton continued. “I used the FLW Member’s Advantage tools, but I also did a lot of research on my own. I thought I’d score pretty high when seven of my guys finished in the top-10, but to actually win is great!”

Finishing in second place on the fantasy side for the Forrest Wood Cup was Shannon Davis of Benton City, Wash., who won $1,000, and in third was Rodney Allen of Clarkrange, Tenn., who won $500. Several other winners from Kentucky to Ohio to California took home prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.

FLW Fantasy Fishing is free to play, but fans can gain a valuable edge with Member’s Advantage. The 2014 Fantasy Fishing season consisted of seven tournaments surrounding the Walmart FLW Tour regular season as well as the season-ending Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. Fans competed for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes from each of the six tournaments and a top prize of $5,000. The cumulative grand prize for the highest ranked player at the end of the season was $10,000, and was awarded to Steve Pasker, of Waterloo, Iowa.
