CastAway Rods Pro Angler Todd Faircloth Posts Second-Place Finish at A.R.E Truck Caps BASS Elite Series Tournament on Lake Cayuga

CastAway Rods pro angler Todd Faircloth posted a second-place finish at the Aug. 21-24 A.R.E Truck Caps BASS Elite Series event on New York’s Lake Cayuga, adding yet another strong performance to his solid 2014 season.
Faircloth remained within striking distance of leader Greg Hackney through day three of the tournament, but couldn’t come up with a big enough limit on the final day to top Hackney. The veteran angler, from Jasper, Texas, finished with a total of 75.13 pounds of bass, second only to Hackney’s 85 pounds.
“I’m extremely pleased with the way I fished,” said Faircloth. “I just wasn’t able to put together a heavy enough bag on that last day to overtake Greg.”
This was Faircloth’s fifth top-10 finish of the year, however, and he currently holds third place among the 108 BASS Elite Series anglers competing for Toyota Angler of the Year honors.
On Cayuga, Faircloth targeted fish relating to the lake’s abundant submerged grass in 15 to 19 feet of water. He stuck with two basic techniques throughout the tournament to boat limits of bass in the two- to five-pound class, cranking and worming.
“I caught a lot of fish throwing a Strike King 5XD crankbait with my CastAway Big T’s Shallow Cranker signature rod. I also landed plenty of bass working a Strike King Rage Tail Cut-R worm with a CastAway Skeleton SKX-7H Mag Heavy rod,” noted Faircloth. “I positioned my boat on the outside of the grass and casted into it. With the crankbait, the fish were reacting to a steady, medium-speed retrieve along and through the vegetation. Most of my bites on the worm came as I was bouncing it slowly along the edge of the grass.”
