The nonprofit ArtsQuest and the Hokendauqua Chapter of Trout Unlimited are partnering to offer their first Fly Tying Workshop Dec. 10 and 17, 6-9 p.m., at the Banana Factory community arts center, 25 W. Third St., Bethlehem, Pa.. In the two-day workshop, called Fly Tying 101, students will discover how to tie four basic fly patterns used in fly fishing. A portion of the proceeds from the workshop will go to support the Trout Unlimited chapter’s conservation efforts and habitat improvement work on area streams.
During Fly Tying 101, participants will learn to tie the green weenie, gold-ribbed hare’s ear nymph, soft hackle peacock and woolly bugger. Students will tie two examples of each pattern for a total of eight flies. Cost for the workshop, which is open to ages 10 and older, is $35; all fly tying equipment and materials are included.
Trout Unlimited and ArtsQuest are also partnering to offer a limited number of workshop spots for free to U.S. Armed Forces Veterans with disabilities. Interested Veterans may contact Linda Essert at 610-332-1327 or lessert@artsquest.org to register or learn more.
