Video: Angler Finds Northern Pike Inside Larger, Cannibal Pike
OutdoorHub Reporters 04.01.15
The northern pike is a notorious cannibal and when food sources are scarce, will think nothing of devouring one of its smaller brethren. These aggressive predators are highly territorial and frequently engage in skirmishes with others of their own species. While smaller pike generally hunt in groups, larger specimens are solitary and “control” an area by dominating lesser pike. The larger the pike, the larger the area it controls, and it’s not above stealing prey from younger fish. In times of hardship, larger pike will decide to skip the prey fish and go after other pike directly.
For anglers who have a bit of luck and the right timing, this results in bringing in two pikes for the fight of one.
