(Wilsonville, OR)—Lewis Danielson, Crimson Trace’s Founder and Chairman of the Board, has received the National Rifle Association’s Golden Bullseye Pioneer Award. The prestigious industry recognition noted that Danielson was “fundamentally responsible for the invention, development, marketing and/or promotion of products that gained widespread use and which fundamentally changed some aspect of shooting sports equipment or related products for the better.” Those words relate to Danielson’s founding and building America’s premium brand of laser sighting systems for firearms—Crimson Trace.
The NRA statement regarding the prominent award also noted: “Danielson’s company pioneered the firearm-mounted laser business, introduced the word “Lasergrips” into the lexicon of the shooting sports and remains the leader in its field.” The award details have also been covered in numerous NRA magazines, including in the April 2015 issue of Shooting Illustrated.
Danielson, a trained engineer, co-founded Crimson Trace in the backroom of an Oregon machine shop in 1994. Many news features have reported on Danielson’s simple 18-point business plan for the fledgling company. That iconic plan was handwritten on a piece of yellow legal pad paper. The first versions of Crimson Trace laser sights were designed for Glock handguns—and the owner had to send the pistol to Oregon for machining and installation.
Danielson was inducted into the Oregon State University Engineering Hall of Fame in 2013.
The NRA Golden Bullseye Pioneer Award for Lewis Danielson was bestowed during the Association’s opening breakfast at its Annual Meetings and Exhibits. The event is currently underway in Nashville, Tennessee.
