Video: Two Men Drag Their Way Across Frozen River to Rescue Deer

This is one deer that didn’t read the thin ice signs posted nearby. In fact, the ice on Minnesota’s Red Lake River was more like slush than anything solid when this deer fell through recently. Crookston firefighter Chris Klawitter and DNR officer Ross Hier volunteered to go out on the lake in a small boat to rescue the trapped deer, eventually dragging themselves across the river by using long hooks to catch the ice.
It was a dangerous trip, especially since the boat had a good chance of tipping over at any time. Fortunately, the men were able to retrieve the deer without much problem and were towed back to shore.
That deer does look mighty cold, however.
