Video: Octopus Shows Off Its Swagger with Coconuts

Have you ever seen an octopus attempt to “walk” with its tentacles? It doesn’t happen often, but it is profoundly strange to see one of these cephalopods try to use its tentacles as legs. We’re more used to seeing octopuses glide along the bottom of the ocean like some kind of nightmarish sea spider, but apparently they have adapted this method to carry large objects such as coconut shells.

Why a coconut shell? Well, for an octopus, a coconut shell makes for a perfect protective shelter. This is especially prevalent in areas without the rocky crevices that they prefer, or if on the surface near a beach. Due to their natural ability to squeeze into just about anything, octopuses have even been known to take shelter within cockle shells.
