NBC Universal announced on Monday that President Barack Obama will be taking a trek through the Alaskan wilderness with survival expert Bear Grylls for an upcoming episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls.
Few details about the event have been released, but it seems that Obama will be taking time out of his schedule to film with Grylls sometime this week. President Obama left for the 49th state during a historic three-day trip on Monday, becoming the first sitting US president to visit the Arctic Circle.
“President Obama will meet with Grylls while visiting Alaska to observe the effects of climate change on the area,” stated NBC in a press release. “The two will then come together in the Alaskan Wilderness. President Obama will become the first U.S. president to receive a crash course in survival techniques from Bear Grylls. The visit will be taped and aired on NBC later this year.”
Running Wild with Bear Grylls previously featured celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Zac Efron, Michelle Rodriguez, Drew Bees, Channing Tatum, and Kate Hudson. Episodes usually follow Grylls and his guests as they tackle wilderness survival skills. Challenges typically include finding food—like Hudson eating ants or Rodriguez consuming a urine-covered mouse—and physically demanding stunts.
It is not known what activities will be prepared for the presidential visit.
“I will not deny your suspicion that there may have been some suggestions put forward by the Bear Grylls team that were not approved by the Secret Service,” USA Today quoted White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.
The location of filming, understandably, has not been disclosed.
