Video: Hornady Announces New Heat Shielded Line of Ammunition

Ballistics engineers at Hornady noticed something odd after they used Doppler radar to track the flight path of their A-Max Bullets. The engineers noticed that the aerodynamic drag of the their bullets increased after traveling about 150 yards from the muzzle. The Eureka moment came when the engineers realized that the plastic tips were actually melting due to friction when traveling at high speeds. While the melting tips made little difference at short ranges it did affect long range shooters.
To solve the melting issues Hornady is introducing the new ELD Match line which features the the Heat Shield Tip. The new tip can withstand the high temperatures caused by fast moving rounds. You learn more about the news bullets in the video below.
