Video: Chainsaw Sculptor Carves Fighting Caribou from Tree

The image of a traditional sculptor may be someone with a chisel and stone, but a chainsaw and wood sounds a whole lot cooler. When Alaskan carver Jordan Anderson wants to do something big, he uses several hundred pounds of old spruce log.
“A sculpture for the books. I had to wait a while to carve this idea out, worth the wait for sure,” Anderson wrote when he originally posted the video, which is now going viral.
Anderson spent his childhood building custom log homes with his father, so it was only natural for him to use his skills for art. The carver said that his first project was a 14-foot killer whale. Although he has been recognized internationally for his work, Anderson claims he’s still just a humble student.
“I grew up in a small town in Minnesota, USA, located on Lake Pokegama where I quickly learned to appreciate the wonders of nature by fishing, hunting, and camping in the Northland,” he wrote on his website. “While at home, after the hunting and fishing season passed, I would reflect my experiences in the field by sketching wildlife such as deer, bears, eagles, fish, wolfs [sic], and others.”
The same goes for his larger, wood-based projects. Despite some intial stumbles, Anderson says that this sculpture is one of his proudest.
