It takes a lot to be a good taxidermist. Many professionals start at a very young age and choose this fascinating field because they have a passion for wildlife. Learning how to properly mount an animal is as hard as it looks, and it takes many years of apprenticing, taking courses, or learning on your own before you can call yourself a master taxidermist. Many states and counties require taxidermists to be licensed, guaranteeing a general standard of quality. Successful taxidermists spend a lot of effort building up their reputation—both in quality and customer service—before they have a solid list of clientele. It also takes plenty of skill.

We’re not being judgmental. Most people who get into taxidermy don’t make a masterpiece on their first try. Then again, if we were given these, we might want our money back.
