Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area Implements Fire Ban Restrictions

SALIDA, Colo. – The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) Thursday implemented the fire ban restrictions imposed by Fremont and Chaffee Counties, and the Bureau of Land Management.
The restrictions ban all open fires within the AHRA at the designated recreation sites. Smoking is allowed only within an enclosed vehicle or building or within an area that clear of vegetation and measures at least 3-ft. in diameter. However, propane and gas-fueled stoves with an on/off valve are allowed in all recreation sites within Chaffee and Lake County. In Fremont County, due to the type of fire ban restrictions in that county, no propane or gas-fueled stoves are allowed in recreation sites within Fremont County unless the stove is inside a recreational vehicle.
High fire danger due to high temperatures and windy conditions prompted local authorities to institute these restrictions. For further information, please visit AHRA’s website at http://www.parks.state.co.us/Parks/ArkansasHeadwaters.
The AHRA is managed through a cooperative effort between Colorado State Parks and the Bureau of Land Management. Formed in 1989, this partnership allows agencies to provide visitors with recreation opportunities and care for significant natural resources of the Upper Arkansas River Valley.
