Want to breathe new life into those old, long-forgotten hooks in the back of your garage? This innovative bladesmith decided to recycle them into a new knife.
Stainless carbon steel is very hard to work with unless you have the proper tools, so he decided to use the canister method, whereby the hooks are melted into a solid bar within a steel canister. Be advised, this method can be very dangerous if attempted improperly, so it’s not exactly for novices.
If done well, the results are a beautiful Damascus-style blade. With enough skill, you can even make a fillet knife out of your old fishing hooks. Not bad for a heap of scrap metal you forgot about long ago.
