Will you still be able to climb into your tree stand at 102? Clyde Roberts has no problem doing that, and just this season, he harvested both a buck and a doe. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries recently sat down with one of the oldest active hunters in the country, perhaps to learn just how he continues to hunt successfully at his advanced age.
Roberts only started hunting at the age of 65, but has been hooked ever since. Now, every year he still climbs a 20-foot ladder to his tree stand, somewhere in Bedford County. How does he do it?
“People ask me that all the time,” his son, Mike Roberts, said. “My father is a very simple person and a devout Christian. He says the secret is ‘hard work and living for the Lord.’”
